Bongo

bongo pl1

Bongo is an African antelope. It’s also another strange beast, a dice game with no luck, based on logic and fast reaction. Players are attending a safari photo-safari. Dice are rolled, and the first player to call out the right animal, gnu, antelope or rhino, wins one trophy  picture  point. First player with two trophies pictures of each animal wins. Once you have mastered the basic rules, you can add more dice to make the logic more intricate – poachers remove an animal die, but national park guards can protect one. Yes, I know, the photo metaphor doesn’t work any more here, never mind.

The rules in the game box are in German or Polish, depending on what edition you own, but you can download english rules here.

  1. Even though I’m terrible at real-time games, I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Bongo. That’s because I “borrowed” the mechanism you used for the yellow dice (Identical items = that item, Different items = the remaining item) when I created my uber-hard deduction game “Deduce or Die”. I might have come up with something similar myself, but because you had already done the hard work in Bongo, I didn’t have to. Thanks, Bruno!
