Michael Schacht et moi avions d\u00e9j\u00e0 collabor\u00e9 pour Draco and Co et, surtout, pour Aux Pierres du Dragon. Hollywood est donc le troisi\u00e8me jeu de cartes que nous avons con\u00e7u ensemble mais, contrairement aux pr\u00e9c\u00e9dents, celui-ci est d’un style bien plus schachtesque que faiduttien. Pas mal de r\u00e9flexion, donc, et pas de cartes \u00e9v\u00e9nements aux effets impr\u00e9visibles et incontr\u00f4lables.<\/p>\n

Hollywood est en effet un jeu de cartes tactique, l\u00e9ger et rapide, qui laisse tr\u00e8s peu de place au hasard. Les r\u00e8gles en sont tr\u00e8s simples, et une partie se joue en une quinzaine de minutes.<\/p>\n

Le th\u00e8me est celui du cin\u00e9ma, les joueurs s’effor\u00e7ant de produire les meilleurs films en confiant les meilleurs sc\u00e9narios de films d’action, de film d’\u00e9pouvante et de films romantiques aux meilleurs r\u00e9alisateurs. Ils doivent pour cela collecter des cartes composant le sc\u00e9nario, avant d’y associer un r\u00e9alisateur qui en multipliera la valeur commerciale. Les cartes que peut prendre un joueur d\u00e9pendant en grande partie de ce qu’ont fait les joueurs pr\u00e9c\u00e9dents, les choix tactiques peuvent \u00eatre assez tordus.<\/p>\n

Les toutes premi\u00e8res versions du jeu contaient une course de sorci\u00e8res sur des balais, puis des nobles de la Renaissance faisant b\u00e2tir des palais dans leurs fiefs – bref, rien de bien fort ou original. Le th\u00e8me hollywoodien, moins rebattu et tr\u00e8s bien adapt\u00e9 aux m\u00e9canismes du jeu, est une id\u00e9e de l’\u00e9diteur.<\/p>\n

Je dois bien admettre que cartes et boite sont plut\u00f4t moches, et surtout que la pochette en carton souple est fort peu pratique. C’est quand m\u00eame d’abord le jeu qui compte, et j’esp\u00e8re donc que \u00e7a ne vous emp\u00eachera pas de l’acheter !<\/p>\n

Michael Schacht and I had already designed together Draco and Co and, more important, Fist of Dragonstones. Hollywood is our third card game but, unlike the two former ones, it feels definitely more Schacht that Faidutti. This means that it can be a brain teaser, and that there are no zany event cards with unpredictable and uncontrollable effects.<\/em><\/p>\n

Hollywood is a light and fast paced tactical card game, with almost no luck. The rules are very simple, and it plays in 15 minutes.<\/em><\/p>\n

The setting is, of course, the movie business. Players try to produce the most profitable movies with finding the best scripts and hiring to work on them the most renowned directors. To do this, they must collect cards to build the scripts, and then add a director card which acts as a multiplier. Since the cards a player will take depend both on his actions and on the other players’ ones, the tactics can be a bit tricky.<\/em><\/p>\n

The first versions of this game involved witches in a broom racing, then Renaissance Nobles building palaces – nothing very deep or new. The Hollywood theme was the publisher’s idea, feels more original, and fits well with the game systems.<\/em><\/p>\n

I must admit that the cards and box graphics are not the nicest ones, and that the soft cardboard box is highly unpractical. Since the most important is still the game, I hope it won’t put you off buying it!<\/em><\/p>\n
