Ainsi, les premiers tours d\u2019\u00e9change obligatoire de cartes ne sont plus n\u00e9cessaires, et l\u2019on peut rentrer imm\u00e9diatement dans le vif du sujet, ce qui rend le jeu tout de suite plus int\u00e9ressant.<br \/>\nEn d\u00e9but de partie, \u00e9changer sa carte n\u2019a alors pas beaucoup de sens. Lorsqu\u2019un autre joueur annonce un personnage, contester peut-\u00eatre un bon moyen de d\u00e9couvrir la sienne, mais si tout le monde proc\u00e8de ainsi, les caisses du tribunal se remplissent bien vite et le Juge devient une carte gagnante.<br \/>\nParfois, les premiers joueurs se contentent de regarder leur carte, mais c\u2019est souvent pour se la voir aussit\u00f4t \u00e9chang\u00e9e, ce qui cr\u00e9e pas mal de mouvement avant que la situation ne se stabilise.\u00a0 Cette variante ajoute donc une certaine tension au jeu, en particulier aux premiers tours.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Double Aveugle<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Allons plus loin encore : Pour jouer en double-aveugle, m\u00e9langez toutes les cartes et distribuez-en une, face cach\u00e9e, \u00e0 chaque joueur, puis, si vous jouez avec l\u2019extension, mettez les cartes restantes dans le cimeti\u00e8re. Ainsi, les joueurs ne savent m\u00eame pas quelles cartes sont en jeu. Bien s\u00fbr, cela signifie que cette variante n\u2019est praticable qu\u2019avec des joueurs connaissant d\u00e9j\u00e0 bien tous les personnages.<\/p>\n<p>Cette variante pose quelques petits probl\u00e8mes avec des personnages sp\u00e9cifiques. Voici comment r\u00e9gler les principaux :<br \/>\n1) Necromancien (extension) &#8211; S&#8217;assurer que que le N\u00e9cromancien est bien dans les cartes distribu\u00e9es en d\u00e9but de partie garantit tous les personnages du jeu seront \u00e9ventuellement accessibles.<br \/>\n2) Il peut ne pas y avoir de Juge en jeu pour r\u00e9cup\u00e9rer l\u2019argent du Tribunal, mais il est toujours possible de bluffer, ou, avec l\u2019extension, d\u2019utiliser le N\u00e9cromancien pour le faire revenir du cimeti\u00e8re. Quoi qu\u2019il en soit, la partie peut certes \u00eatre un peu plus longue si l\u2019on ne peut pas r\u00e9cup\u00e9rer l\u2019argent du tribunal, mais ce n\u2019est pas la fin du monde.<br \/>\n3) Avoir le Maudit au premier tour est quand m\u00eame assez violent et injuste &#8211; mieux vaut donc le retirer.<br \/>\n4) De m\u00eame, si vous jouez avec l\u2019extension, il faut retirer l\u2019une des deux Mendiantes..<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00c9quipes secr\u00e8tes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>C&#8217;est la variante la plus amusante, qui marche quel que soit le nombre de joueurs puisqu&#8217;il est parfaitement possible de combiner des \u00e9quipes de deux et de trois joueurs.<br \/>\nOn peut constituer les \u00e9quipes en utilisant des cartes \u00e0 jouer. Ainsi, \u00e0 8 joueurs, on utilise deux s\u00e9ries de cartes de valeurs 1 \u00e0 4, \u00e0 9 joueurs trois s\u00e9ries de 1 \u00e0 3, etc. Chaque joueur re\u00e7oit une carte, face cach\u00e9e.<br \/>\nEnsuite, comme aux loups-garous, tous les joueurs ferment les yeux et on appelle les diff\u00e9rents chiffres, l\u2019un apr\u00e8s l\u2019autre, en ordre croissant. lorsqu\u2019un nombre est appel\u00e9, tous les joueurs ayant une carte de cette valeur ouvrent les yeux et se reconnaissent, puis ils ferment les yeux et on passe \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9quipe suivante. Chacun connait donc ses partenaires mais ignore comment son constitu\u00e9es les autres \u00e9quipes.<\/p>\n<p>Une \u00e9quipe remporte la partie si la richesse totale de ses membres atteint un seuil qui d\u00e9pend du nombre de joueurs dans l\u2019\u00e9quipe :<br \/>\n\u2022 1 joueur = 13 pi\u00e8ces d&#8217;or<br \/>\n\u2022 2 joueurs = 22 pi\u00e8ces d&#8217;or<br \/>\n\u2022 3 joueurs = 31 pi\u00e8ces d&#8217;or<br \/>\nNB: le Tricheur r\u00e9duit le seuil de 3 n\u00e9cessaire \u00e0 l\u2019ensemble de l\u2019\u00e9quipe &#8211; deux joueurs gagnent alors avec 19 pi\u00e8ces d\u2019or, trois joueurs avec 28.<\/p>\n<p>Cette variante rend le jeu plus complexe et plus \u00e9quilibr\u00e9, et est donc destin\u00e9e aux joueurs qui connaissent d\u00e9j\u00e0 bien le jeu de base. Il est tr\u00e8s souvent possible d\u2019utiliser le pouvoir de personnages comme le Fou, l\u2019Espionne ou la Joueuse pour aider ses partenaires, mais le faire de mani\u00e8re trop \u00e9vidente peut indiquer \u00e0 tous qui est dans votre \u00e9quipe. Cependant, plus la fin du jeu approche, moins il est n\u00e9cessaire de cacher son jeu, un peu comme dans Saboteur.<\/p>\n<p>Et une variante \u00e0 moi, quand m\u00eame<br \/>\n<strong>Deux Juges<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dans les parties avec des joueurs tr\u00e8s nombreux, le Juge peut, surtout si les contestations sont fr\u00e9quentes, devenir extr\u00eamement puissant. On peut bien s\u00fbr expliquer aux joueurs qu\u2019il convient de jouer plus prudemment, mais on peut aussi affaiblir quelque peu le magistrat en lui adjoignant un confr\u00e8re (qui peut-\u00eatre repr\u00e9sent\u00e9 par la carte du Montreur d\u2019Ours). Si les deux Juges sont r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9s, ils se partagent l\u2019argent du Tribunal, le reste \u00e9ventuel restant sur place. This means you can dispense with the initial four rounds of enforced swapping &#8211; and makes the whole thing rather more interesting from the outset.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>For instance, as there&#8217;s not a lot of point of swapping, when the first person calls a character, do you challenge, just to see who you are? If everyone does that in the first couple of rounds, you load up the courthouse ready for the judge, which quickly becomes a winning card.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Or we&#8217;ve also had rounds where people spend the first round looking at their cards &#8211; but as soon as someone looks, they get swapped, so there&#8217;s an amount of to-ing and fro-ing before things stabilise themselves.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>We&#8217;ve found it adds a real frisson.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Double Blind<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Here you take ALL of the characters and shuffle them, dealing face-down and not revealing what they are, putting the remainder in the graveyard (if you have the expansion). This way, no-one even knows which cards might be in play at all &#8211; so you do need to play with people who are familiar with all of the characters.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Playing this way does raise a few issues, which we&#8217;ve mostly addressed &#8211; do please post other scenarios etc. and I&#8217;ll try to let you know if we&#8217;ve come across (and solved) them already &#8211; it&#8217;s hard to remember everything up-front! :o)<\/em><br \/>\n<em>1) Necromancer (expansion) &#8211; we do occasionally ensure the Necromancer is in the cards which are dealt out &#8211; this means that the graveyard (and thus any character) is accessible.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>2) there may not always be a Judge in play to collect from the courthouse, but you can always bluff it, or (if you have the expansion), use the Necromancer to try and get it from the graveyard. Either way it&#8217;s not the end of the world if you can&#8217;t clear down the courthouse &#8211; just make sure you change up the coins to keep the bank stocked.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>3) for the Damned (expansion card) it&#8217;s a bit unfair for it to be out on the first round, so when we&#8217;re playing double-blind, we tend to remove it.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>4) You&#8217;ll also need to remove the duplicate beggar if you&#8217;re playing with both the original set and the expansion. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Secret Teams<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>By far the most exciting variant we&#8217;ve come up with is to play in secret teams. <\/em><em>We&#8217;ve done with pairs\/threes &#8211; and combinations of the two where we&#8217;ve had odd numbers and it works brilliantly.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>First, you choose the teams using cards from a standard deck. E.g. for 8 players you&#8217;d have two sets of 1-4, for 9, three sets of 1-3 etc. Deal one card face down to each player. <\/em><em>Then (werewolf-style) you all close your eyes and one person calls the numbers in sequence. All those who have that number open their eyes, see who&#8217;s on their team, then (after a long enough pause) the caller calls for all to close them again. When you&#8217;ve got to the end, you should know who&#8217;s on your team, but you&#8217;ll know nothing about the others!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>When playing, the winning conditions are met when the whole team score meets the winning threshold, based on the number of people on the team<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u2022 1 player = 13<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u2022 2 players = 22<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u2022 3 players = 31<\/em><br \/>\n<em>NB: the Cheat&#8217;s ability reduces the team&#8217;s total target by 3 &#8211; to match the effect in the original game (win with 10 not 13)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>We&#8217;re experienced players who&#8217;ve really got into this since acquiring it about 6 months ago, so we wouldn&#8217;t necessarily recommend this variant for newbies &#8211; however it really adds to the game and is a great way of mixing it up &#8211; there&#8217;s no obvious target when someone approaches 11-12 coins, so it makes for more &#8216;even&#8217; play&#8230; <\/em><em>You can clearly use your character&#8217;s ability to benefit your teammates -e.g. fool, spy, gambler (expansion), puppet master (expansion) &#8211; but it&#8217;s also quite difficult to directly benefit them without telegraphing who is on your team too early on; as you approach the end (as in the game Saboteur) it becomes less necessary to hide what you&#8217;re up to!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>And a fourth variant, this time of my own design<\/em><br \/>\n<strong><em>Double Judge<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>When playing with many players &#8211; mostly 12 or 13 -, the Judge can become extremely powerful, especially if players tend to call bluffs easily. The best way to temper this is to convince players to play more carefully. When this doesn\u2019t work, you can also add a second Judge &#8211; for example using the Bear Leader card. If both Judges are revealed, the money in the courthouse is shared equally between them, the rest, if any, staying there.
