<\/a>J’aurais bien vu, sur la couverture de Temple Perdu, un jeune Malraux s’enfuyant d’Angkor en emportant quelques statuettes khm\u00e8res sous sa gabardine. Pier\u00f4 avait malheureusement d\u00e9j\u00e0 dessin\u00e9 Andr\u00e9 Malraux sur la couverture de Bakong, de mon ami Antoine Bauza.
I would have liked to see on the cover a portrait of Andr\u00e9 Malraux fleeing from Angkor with some Khmer statuette hidden under his gabardine. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what Pier\u00f4 had already drawn for the cover of Antoine Bauza’s Bakong.<\/p><\/div>\n
La route du Temple Perdu, \u00e0 travers la jungle, c\u2019est donc la dangereuse voie royale parsem\u00e9e de temples khmers, qui m\u00e8ne \u00e0 une Asie mythique, quelque part entre Siam, Cambodge, Laos et Chine. Les neuf personnages dont, tout au long de la route, les aventuriers vont utiliser les pouvoirs, ce sont les villageois Mois et Stieng qui accompagnent Vannec et Perken.<\/p>\n
Alors, bien s\u00fbr, la mort, qui est le seul vainqueur du roman, ne saurait l\u2019emporter dans un jeu. La jungle de Lost Temple est lumineuse et color\u00e9e, les indig\u00e8nes toujours amicaux, les rivaux sympathiques. Mais apr\u00e8s le jeu, vous \u00a0pouvez lire ou relire La Voie Royale, l\u2019envers du d\u00e9cor.<\/p>\n
Apr\u00e8s la Voix Royale, pour vous remonter un peu le moral et vous faire de l’humanit\u00e9 une id\u00e9e plus sympathique, je vous conseille la lecture de Villa Incognito, de Tom Robbins. \u00c7a n’a absolument rien \u00e0 voir, mais \u00e7a se passe exactement au m\u00eame endroit, chez les Mhongs, entre Cambodge et Laos, et il y a moins de pathos et plus de l\u00e9g\u00e8ret\u00e9.
\nBien s\u00fbr, vous pouvez aussi revoir Apocalypse Now qui, comme La Voix Royale, est inspir\u00e9 du roman de Conrad Au C\u0153ur des T\u00e9n\u00e8bres, dont l’action se passait pourtant au Congo.<\/p>\n
Lost Temple<\/span><\/strong> Je sais, il n\u2019y a pas de mer dans le nord du Cambodge, autour de la Voie Royale \u2013 mais j\u2019avais oubli\u00e9 de signaler ce d\u00e9tail \u00e0 Pier\u00f4, et le dessin qu\u2019il avait fait pour le plateau de jeu est trop beau pour que l’on ose lui demander de le refaire\u2026 As a teenager, I was fascinated by the character of Andr\u00e9 Malraux \u2013 the adventurer, the novelist, the statesman and the art critic. I devoured his novels, especially the Asian ones \u2013 Man\u2019s Fate, The Conquerors, and, most of all, The Royal Way, an initiatory adventure novel about jungle, inebriation, absurdity and death. It\u2019s this book, and not the Indiana Jones movies, which inspired me when designing The Lost Temple.<\/em><\/p>\n In The Royal Way, Andr\u00e9 Malraux tells the story of two adventurers, the young French Claude Vannec and the old Danish Perken, who travel into the Indochina jungle along the ancient Khmer royal way, towards the mountains of Northern Laos and Cambodia. Vannec is an archeologist, but is motivated less by knowledge than by interest, in the form of ancient and negotiable statues. Perken is looking for a lost friend, another adventurer, Grabot, who is an echo of Kurtz in Conrad\u2019s Heart of Darkness. I won\u2019t tell the rest of the story, you must read the book.<\/em><\/p>\n The road through the Jungle in the Lost Temple game is the King\u2019s way, bordered with Khmer temples. It leads to some mythical Asia, lost in space between Siam, Cambodia, Laos and China. The nine friendly characters whose abilities the players will use are the Mong and Stieng villagers who often accompany Vannec and Perken.<\/em><\/p>\n Death is the only winner in the book. It couldn\u2019t be so in a game. The Jungle of the Lost Temple is bright and colorful, the natives are unambiguously friendly, the other players are rivals and not enemies. After playing the game, you can still lift up the curtain and read the book.<\/em><\/p>\n After the Royal Way, if you want to feel a bit better and have a better opinion of mankind, I urge you to read Tom Robbins’ Villa Incognito. The two books have absolutely nothing in common, but the action takes place exactly at the same place, among the Mongh people, between Cambodia and Laos.<\/em> Lost Temple<\/span><\/strong><\/em> Adolescent, j\u2019ai \u00e9t\u00e9, comme beaucoup, fascin\u00e9 par le personnage de Malraux \u2013 l\u2019aventurier, le romancier, le politique et enfin le penseur de l\u2019art. I know, there\u2019s no sea next to the royal way, in northern Cambodia. That\u2019s my fault, I didn\u2019t remind Pier\u00f4 of this, and he thought a big deep southern sea will fit well in the picture. His board looks so nice that we dared not ask him to do it again.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/a><\/p>\n
