Aimant beaucoup les petits jeux de l\u2019\u00e9diteur japonais Oink, j\u2019ai tent\u00e9 il y quelques ann\u00e9es d\u2019imaginer un jeu qui pourrait entrer dans la m\u00eame jolie gamme que Kobayakawa, Insider, Deep Sea Adventure et surtout A Fake Artist Goes to New York. La particularit\u00e9 des jeux Oink \u00e9tant leur petite boite qui tient dans la main, il m\u2019a sembl\u00e9 malin de vouloir faire un jeu qui utilise cette boite comme \u00e9l\u00e9ment du jeu. L\u2019id\u00e9e, tout comme le nom du jeu, sont venus assez vite – Maracas. Une boite, un joueur qui place des trucs dedans, et on essaie de deviner ce qu\u2019il y a en secouant la boite contre son oreille. Le principe n\u2019est pas enti\u00e8rement nouveau, puisqu\u2019il existait d\u00e9j\u00e0 dans un jeu auquel j\u2019ai beaucoup jou\u00e9 il y a une vingtaine d\u2019ann\u00e9es, Zapp Zerapp, mais l\u2019id\u00e9e \u00e9tait de le r\u00e9duire \u00e0 son plus simple \u00e9l\u00e9ment, en utilisant une seule boite, et d\u2019introduire un m\u00e9canisme de prise de risque \u00e0 la mani\u00e8re de Perudo. C\u2019est d\u2019ailleurs sur ces histoires de scoring et de prise de risque que j\u2019ai bloqu\u00e9 un moment, et que moi et mon \u00e9quipe de joueurs du week-end nous sommes le plus cass\u00e9 la t\u00eate, jusqu\u2019\u00e0 ce qu\u2019un soir Herv\u00e9 Marly ne propose la solution, ce qui lui vaut d\u2019\u00eatre le co-auteur du jeu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De passage \u00e0 Osaka, j\u2019ai pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 le jeu \u00e0 Jun et Laura, de Oink Games, mais ils n\u2019ont pas \u00e9t\u00e9 convaincus. Du coup, un peu d\u00e9pit\u00e9, je l\u2019ai emport\u00e9 \u00e0 Cannes et \u00e0 Essen pour le pr\u00e9senter \u00e0 quelques autres \u00e9diteurs et il a s\u00e9duit les gens de Blue Orange, qui ont tout de suite d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de le pr\u00e9senter dans une maracas (ou dit-on une maraca?) en plastique, faisant de ce que je voyais comme une boite minimaliste un objet rigolo et color\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maracas est un petit jeu rapide et malin, pour tous les \u00e2ges, qui tient dans la poche et qui n\u2019a m\u00eame pas besoin d\u2019une table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I really like the small games by the Japanese publisher Oink. A few years ago, I tried to devise a light game which could fit in the same line as personal favorites such as Kobayakawa, Insider, Deep Sea Adventure and, above all, A Fake Artist goes to New York. The main characteristics of Oink game being their small box which can be held in one\u2019s hand, I wanted to use this box as a part of the game. The basic idea, as well as the game\u2019s name, came at once – Maracas. A box, a player places some stuff in it, and the other try to guess what there is with shaking the box next to their ear. This idea was already sed in an older game I played a lot twenty years ago, Zapp Zerapp, but I wanted to make it lighter, simpler, using only one box, and with a Liar\u2019s Dice like risk taking system. This proved more complex than I had thought, and I experimented a lot with various scoring and reward systems until one night Herv\u00e9 Marly came with a simple and legend solution, which is why he is the co-designer of the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I happened to be in Osaka, I showed the game to Jung and Laura, from Oink games, but I failed to convince them. I was a bit sad, but brought it to Cannes and Essen to show it to other publishers. The Blue Orange team liked it at once, and soon decided to publish it, not in a small box like my prototype but in a real plastic maracas (or is-it a maraca?), changing what I imagined as a minimalistic design into a fun colorful toy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maracas is a light, fun and fast paced game for all ages, which doesn\u2019t even need a gaming table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
