Nul ne s\u2019amuse en jouant aux \u00e9checs ni m\u00eame, pour citer deux jeux r\u00e9cemment entr\u00e9s dans la ludoth\u00e8que id\u00e9ale, en jouant \u00e0 Troyes ou Nurenberc. L\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat de ces jeux est ailleurs, dans la tension et la comp\u00e9tition entre les joueurs, dans les efforts qu\u2019ils font pour gagner et qui demandent un certain s\u00e9rieux. Citadelles, celui de mes jeux qui se vend le mieux, peut \u00eatre jou\u00e9 pour s\u2019amuser, mais il peut aussi \u00eatre pratiqu\u00e9 tr\u00e8s s\u00e9rieusement, comme le poker, dans une ambiance plus tendue, fa\u00e7on poker, que r\u00e9ellement \u00ab fun \u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c0 l\u2019inverse, des jeux d\u2019ambiance comme Time\u2019s Up, Jungle Speed ou Twister ne sont de bons jeux que parce qu\u2019ils sont dr\u00f4les, m\u00eame si la comp\u00e9tition est loin d\u2019en \u00eatre absente. Il faut rester concentr\u00e9 pour parvenir \u00e0 gagner et pour que le jeu fonctionne, mais \u00e0 l\u2019inverse des jeux cit\u00e9s plus haut, le plaisir ne vient pas de la concentration elle m\u00eame, mais plut\u00f4t de la rigolade qu\u2019elle g\u00e9n\u00e8re.<\/p>\n<p>Et puis, il y a les jeux qui parviennent \u00e0 jouer sur les deux tableaux. \u00c0 ce jour, la note moyenne d\u2019Isla Dorada sur le Boardgamegeek est de 6,83. C\u2019est un score tr\u00e8s honorable, mais pas vraiment exceptionnel. Ce qui me r\u00e9jouit, plus que cette note, ce sont les commentaires. Sur la premi\u00e8re page de commentaires, un mot revient r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement \u2013 fun. Isla Dorada n\u2019est pourtant pas un \u00ab party game \u00bb, c\u2019est un jeu \u00e0 l\u2019allemande, classique, de la famille de Catan, Elfenland ou Les Aventuriers du Rail. Qu\u2019il soit \u00ab fun \u00bb est donc juste un plus \u2013 mais c\u2019est un plus dont je suis particuli\u00e8rement fier.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em>Does a game have to be fun ?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Not necessarily. No one plays Chess for fun. Outstanding boardgames such as Troyes or Norenberc, which recently entered my ideal game library, are not intended to be fun. They are good games because they are tense and challenging, because players must concentrate to win, and this requires a certain dose of seriousness. My best selling game, Citadels, can be played casually and for fun, but it can also be played very seriously, like poker, for tension and not for fun.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>On the other hand, party games such as Time\u2019s Up, Jungle Speed or Twister are good games only because they are fun, even when there is much skill and competition in them. Players have to be highly concentrated on the game to make it work, but the gaming pleasure doesn\u2019t come from the concentration itself, but from the crazy fun it creates.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>And some games manage to win on both sides. As of this morning, Isla Dorada\u2019s average rating on the Boardgamegeek is 6.83. It\u2019s certainly not bad, but it\u2019s not outstanding. What makes me really happy is not this ranking, but the comments on the game. If you browse through the first comments page, you will see one word over and over \u2013 fun. Isla Dorada is not a party game, but a classical eurogame of the Catan, Elfenland or Ticket to Ride family.
