Jusqu\u2019ici, je ne m\u2019en \u00e9tais gu\u00e8re pr\u00e9occup\u00e9. Je payais mes cotisation sociales, mais n\u2019avais pas vraiment besoin d\u2019en faire plus, b\u00e9n\u00e9ficiant de l\u2019assurance maladie comme enseignant.<br \/>\nDu coup, je me pose un peu la question d\u2019arr\u00eater l\u2019enseignement. C\u2019est un m\u00e9tier \u00e9puisant, mais qui me donne le sentiment d\u2019avoir une utilit\u00e9 sociale, ce qui n\u2019est pas tout \u00e0 fait le cas quand je m\u2019amuse \u00e0 cr\u00e9er des jeux, et qui m\u2019apporte une ouverture sur le monde que je ne trouverai jamais dans le monde ludique. Certes, le jeu me permet de voyager et de voir des auteurs, des \u00e9diteurs, des joueurs du monde entier, mais ce sont malgr\u00e9 tout des gens qui se ressemblent et qui me ressemblent, qui ont un peu les m\u00eames passions, les m\u00eames r\u00e9f\u00e9rences culturelles, le m\u00eame \u00e2ge. Rien de tel avec l\u2019enseignement o\u00f9 les \u00e9l\u00e8ves comme les profs sont bien diff\u00e9rents les uns des autres.<\/p>\n<p>Et puis, et c\u2019est sans doute l\u2019essentiel, j\u2019aime enseigner &#8211; du moins tant que ce que j\u2019enseigne a un sens, un int\u00e9r\u00eat pour moi et une utilit\u00e9 pour les \u00e9l\u00e8ves. Et je ne suis pas s\u00fbr du tout que cela puisse encore \u00eatre le cas avec les nouveaux programmes d\u2019\u00e9conomie et de sociologie, que je devrais en principe commencer \u00e0 appliquer l\u2019an prochain, et qui sont \u00e0 la fois une catastrophe p\u00e9dagogique et une escroquerie scientifique.<\/p>\n<p>Ces programmes sont une catastrophe p\u00e9dagogique parce qu\u2019ils proposent une vision purement math\u00e9matique et d\u00e9sincarn\u00e9e de l\u2019\u00e9conomie et de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9, partant de mod\u00e8les (par ailleurs tr\u00e8s discutables) au lieu de partir des r\u00e9alit\u00e9s que, bien souvent, les \u00e9l\u00e8ves ne connaissent pas vraiment. On nous propose un enseignement cul par dessus t\u00eate, dans lequel les \u00e9l\u00e8ves devront \u00e9tudier la forme des courbes de co\u00fbt marginal (ce qui n\u00e9cessite des outils math\u00e9matiques qu&#8217;ils ne ma\u00eetrisent pas) avant de s\u2019interroger sur le ch\u00f4mage, les in\u00e9galit\u00e9s ou le r\u00f4le de l\u2019\u00e9tat &#8211; un peu comme si les profs de maths s\u2019interdisaient d\u2019aborder les quatre op\u00e9rations avant d\u2019avoir termin\u00e9 la th\u00e9orie des nombres. Et qu&#8217;on ne vienne pas me reprocher de m\u00e9priser les mod\u00e8les &#8211; je suis auteur de jeu, je cr\u00e9e des mod\u00e8les tous les jours, je sais \u00e0 quoi cela sert, et pourquoi il faut s&#8217;en m\u00e9fier.<\/p>\n<p>Une p\u00e9dagogie intelligente fait r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir les \u00e9l\u00e8ves en partant du r\u00e9el et de sa complexit\u00e9. On peut discuter du rapprochement entre \u00e9conomie et sociologie au lyc\u00e9e &#8211; personnellement, j\u2019aurais plut\u00f4t fait un bloc histoire, sociologie, litt\u00e9rature et un autre \u00e9conomie- g\u00e9ographie &#8211; mais ce rapprochement \u00e9co-socio avait jusqu\u2019ici pour grande qualit\u00e9 de permettre de partir des objets sociaux contemporains , par exemple l\u2019emploi, la consommation, les probl\u00e8mes \u00e9cologiques, et de les \u00e9tudier sous des approches diff\u00e9rentes et compl\u00e9mentaires. On apprenait ainsi aux \u00e9l\u00e8ves \u00e0 porter des regards multiples et distanci\u00e9s sur un m\u00eame objet. Tout cela disparait, on \u00e9tudiera des probl\u00e8mes abstraits en \u00e9conomie, et des th\u00e9matiques sans risques en sociologie, en \u00e9vitant soigneusement de croiser les regards, car cela pourrait laisser croire aux \u00e9l\u00e8ves (devenus de b\u00eates apprenants) que nous vivons dans une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 complexe et qu\u2019ils ont les capacit\u00e9s pour et le droit de r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir.<\/p>\n<p>Ces programmes sont une escroquerie scientifique parce qu\u2019ils \u00e9vacuent d\u00e9lib\u00e9r\u00e9ment la pluralit\u00e9 des analyses et des approches. Ainsi, par exemple, le programme de seconde n\u2019envisage plus le ch\u00f4mage que sous un angle unique, son lien avec le manque de qualification de la main d\u2019\u0153uvre. Trente-cinq ans d\u2019enseignement m\u2019ont au moins appris une chose, c\u2019est qu\u2019il ne faut pas prendre les \u00e9l\u00e8ves pour des cons (individuellement, on a parfois raison, mais collectivement, on a toujours tort). C\u2019est bien les prendre pour des cons qu&#8217;imaginer qu\u2019on va les convaincre ainsi qu\u2019ils auront un bon boulot bien pay\u00e9 s\u2019ils travaillent sagement \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cole.<br \/>\nDe m\u00eame, la sociologie devient purement individualiste, qu\u2019elle soit abstraite ou statistique, \u00e9vacuant toute analyse en termes de groupes sociaux, alors que les deux approches \u00e9taient jusqu\u2019ici pr\u00e9sent\u00e9s concurremment. C\u2019est l\u00e0 encore prendre les \u00e9l\u00e8ves pour des imb\u00e9ciles que penser qu\u2019on leur fera ainsi croire qu\u2019il n\u2019y a plus de classes sociales.<\/p>\n<p>Je pourrais continuer longtemps\u2026 Cette d\u00e9rive \u00e9tait d\u00e9j\u00e0 un peu \u00e0 l\u2019\u0153uvre dans les programmes pr\u00e9c\u00e9dents, qui datent de 2012 (<a href=\"https:\/\/faidutti.com\/blog\/?p=1378\">voici ce que j&#8217;en disais \u00e0 l&#8217;\u00e9poque<\/a>), mais les profs \u00e9taient heureusement parvenus \u00e0 contourner un peu leur logique pour redonner du sens et de l\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat \u00e0 cet enseignement. Avec la nouvelle version 2019, cela va devenir encore plus difficile, d\u2019autant plus que la nouvelle organisation du bac limite fortement la libert\u00e9 p\u00e9dagogique des enseignants.<\/p>\n<p>Du coup, je commence s\u00e9rieusement \u00e0 me demander si cela vaut la peine de continuer \u00e0 faire un boulot qui est en train de perdre son sens, et ce pour des raisons minables. Cette catastrophe n\u2019est en effet m\u00eame pas l&#8217;aboutissement d\u2019un vaste complot pour inculquer une vision \u00ab\u00a0moderne\u00a0\u00bb de l\u2019\u00e9conomie et de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e0 nos ch\u00e8res t\u00eates blondes. C\u2019est juste le r\u00e9sultat d\u2019une convergence de hasard entre une poign\u00e9e de patrons un peu allum\u00e9s qui s\u2019imaginent \u00e0 tort que nous enseignons la lutte des classes \u00e0 nos \u00e9l\u00e8ves, quelques universitaires qui ne pensent qu\u2019\u00e0 valoriser leurs travaux personnels, et une minuscule coterie de profs dont le gourou s\u2019imagine encore \u00eatre de gauche (ils se reconnaitront tous s\u2019ils lisent ce texte). Though I made sure I always paid my premiums, I didn\u2019t bother with getting any benefits so far because I already get them as a teacher.<br \/>\nAnyway, I can now more comfortably think of quitting teaching. It\u2019s a terribly exhausting job, but it gave me so far a feeling of social usefulness thatI don\u2019t really get when I have fun designing games. It also gave me opportunities to meet really varied people, something which rarely happens in the board gaming world. Sure, I travel and meet gamers, game publishers and game designers all around the world, but these people are all more or less alike, and more or less like me; they have the same hobbies, the same interests, the same cultural references. \u00a0Teachers and students are a much more eclectic bunch .<br \/>\nThe real point, however, is that I really enjoy teaching &#8211; as long as what I teach makes some sense, has some meaning to me and some usefulness for my students. I\u2019m not sure this can still be the case with the new official economics and sociology curriculums (or should I write curricula?) which I\u2019m supposed to teach next year. These curriculums are pedagogically catastrophic and scientifically dishonest.<\/p>\n<p>They are pedagogically catastrophic because they teach a completely mathematical and dehumanized vision of economics and social science. They start from abstract (and questionable) models and not from the social realities which students more or less know. We are supposed to study the shapes of marginal cost curves (with students who lack the necessary maths) before even discussing unemployment, income inequality or state intervention. This is placing the cart before the horse, as if math teachers refused to use the four arithmetic operations until they have studied number theory in depth. And please don\u2019t tell me I despise models, I\u2019m a boardgames designer, I design models every day, I know what they are useful for but also why we should be wary of them.<\/p>\n<p>Good pedagogy starts from reality and acknowledges its complexity. One can discuss the way subjects are regrouped in French schools &#8211; economics with sociology, history with geography, literature with French language &#8211; and I would probably have preferred other pairings. Anyway, the main point of the economics \/ sociology pairing was to study social realities, such as employment, consumption or ecological issues, from different and distanced points of view. We won\u2019t be able to do this any more, since we will have to study abstract models in economics, and harmless risk-free topics in sociology. Everything is made to forbid any interdisciplinary view which could suggest that we live in a complex society and that students are allowed to think by themselves.<\/p>\n<p>These curriculums are scientifically dishonest because they Ignore the scientific debate and the plurality of analysis. Fr example, unemployment is now only studied in its relation with qualification. I\u2019ve been teaching for 35 years now, and I\u2019ve learned it\u2019s always a mistake to take students for fools &#8211; some individuals might be fools, but they\u2019re never as a group. They know quite well it\u2019s more complex, and taking them for fools won\u2019t convince them to study harder at school in order to get a well paid job.<br \/>\nSimilarly, sociology is becoming purely individualistic, any approach in terms of social groups having been carefully removed from the curriculum. Once more, we are really taking students for fools if we think this will convince them there are no more social classesin our wonderful modern world.<\/p>\n<p>I could go on for pages. This trend was already present in the last version of the programs, which were written in 2012. Luckily, teachers have managed to circumvent some of the issues in order to bring back meaning and interest to their lectures. This will become much harder with the 2019 curiculum, especially when the new baccalaureat schedule also reduces pedagogical freedom.<\/p>\n<p>I am therefore starting to wonder if I should quit a job which will lost most of its meaning, and all this for extremely petty reasons. This disaster is not even the result of a capitalist or libertarian conspiracy to inculcate a bright \u00ab\u00a0modern\u00a0\u00bb vision of economics to our children. It\u2019s just the result of a random convergence between a few disconnected industry bosses who honestly think we are teaching class struggle, a few academic dons who only think of pushing their own fields of study, and a tiny teachers clique whose guru honestly think he is still a liberal. I bet they will all recognize themselves if they happen to read this text.
